Abrasive Flow CNC Waterjet

Abrasive CNC Waterjet cutting is an innovative and relatively new technology that allows for precise cutting of a wide range of materials. The principle behind a Waterjet is a jet of water is directed out of an orifice at about three times the speed of sound. The intense pressure of the narrow stream allows the water to actually cut through almost any material placed in front of it.

Waterjets are able to cut complex shapes and parts in almost any material - from metals of all sorts, to stone, glass, ceramics, rubber, plastics and composites - all up to 8 inches thick. Since they cut parts with no heat affected zone, secondary finishing is typically unnecessary. Because Waterjets put no lateral force and exert very little downward force on the parts they are cutting, no elaborate fixturing provisions are required.

Dynamic Waterjet with Active Tolerance Control produces more accurate parts by compensating for the natural taper of the Waterjet cutting process. This technology produces accurate parts at significantly higher cutting speeds than parts cut with a conventional Waterjet. This system utilizes an advanced motion system that incorporates unique mathematical cutting models, which control a small, articulated wrist that is attached to the cutting head. The wrist allows the cutting head to tilt in any direction, compensating for the stream lag and taper experienced with conventional Waterjet cutting machines.

Stream lag and taper are a natural, but undesirable, result of cutting with a beam-type cutter such as a Waterjet. Now, with Dynamic Waterjet, these limitations are overcome.
